Myth: Nobody Uses Victoria Park Currently

This is a common misconception from people who aren’t familiar with the Herston, Spring Hill, Kelvin Grove area. Victoria Park / Barrambin is already a popular destination for locals who value it as a place to walk, jog, cycle, picnic, or simply relax in a natural setting.

If parts of Victoria Park feel underused, this is due to decades of underinvestment and lack of promotion, not a lack of community interest. With the implementation of the Master Plan to redevelop the park, it has the potential to become a hub for recreation, culture, and events without resorting to stadium development. The Save Victoria Park group also provided feedback on council plans to ensure a better outcome for Victoria Park / Barrambin.

The argument that “nobody uses Victoria Park” dismisses the park’s immense value as a green space, its ecological importance, and its role in the community. A stadium would permanently destroy these benefits for a facility that serves fewer people in a more restricted way. Preserving the park ensures it remains a resource for all, both now and in the future.
