IS A $4B STADIUM A GOVT PRIORITY NOW?

Opponents of a stadium in Victoria Park have said that Cyclone Alfred and the resulting damage to public infrastructure has highlighted the need for the State government not to pursue an expensive new stadium in the park.

Former Premier, Campbell Newman, is a strong advocate for Save Victoria Park: “I would find it hard to believe that a new government would make a $4 billion stadium in a Brisbane park their top funding priority.”

He was speaking on the day that the government’s 100-day review committee formally delivered its recommendation to the Premier.

“If Victoria Park is proposed by the review and if the Premier agrees with that, he will be breaking a solemn election promise he made just four months ago and committing to a $4 billion stadium in Brisbane at a time when there are much higher priorities for government spending, “said Mr Newman.

Save Victoria Park president Sue Bremner, said: “We don’t know exactly what’s in the report or what the government’s position will be, but we do ask that the Premier gives us the opportunity to meet to discuss any proposal for Victoria Park before he makes a decision on March 25.”
